better alternative

I’ve learned that when you’re bored it is better to pray and read the Bible instead of finding other things to do just to let the time pass. Reading the Word and praying has eternal value and will make you grow more in your relationship with God. I know it’s not automatic to think of reading the Bible and praying when we get bored but it’s a better alternative. But of course, it doesn’t mean that we should read the Bible and pray only during those “boring moments”. It’s best to have a regular quiet time and Bible study.

Dig deeper into the Word, spend more time with Him…it’s refreshing, reviving, revitalizing!

Follow the rules

We are governed by rules, laws, norms, etc.  Rules were set to put things in order.  Traffic rules.  Dress codes.  Ten commandments.  Constitution.  Sometimes I wonder if there is a world with no rules, where you are free to do the things you like.  I just realized that rules were designed by God.  Even before in the time of Adam, God set a rule – “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil for when you eat of it you will surely die.” (Genesis 2:16-17)  At times, some of the rules do not make sense and are difficult to follow.  But in one way or another, the rule-maker has a good intention on creating a particular rule.  This is the same with God.  He doesn’t only have a good intention but it is for the best, for He is a sovereign God.  “If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.”  “The greatest in the kingdom is the servant of all.”  These principles just show that God’s thoughts are higher than ours.  1 John 5:3 says, “This is love for God: to obey his commands.  And his commands are not burdensome.”  I should obey God’s commands not because I have to or out of fear but because I love Him.  This verse makes sense to me these days…

What Matters Most

This is the title of Chapter 16 of “The Purpose Driven Life”.

It says in its first line “Life is all about love.” Whoa! Is this a love topic again?!!! Hehehe… It talks about love in general. Actually there are three main points in the chapter: 1) the best use of life is love, 2) the best expression of love is time, and 3) the best time to love is now. This chapter made me re-evaluates how I am doing in this area of my life.

The second to the last paragraph says, and I quote:
“Knowing that one day you will stand before God, here are some questions you need to consider: How will you explain those times when projects or things were more important to you than people? Who do you need to start spending more time with? What do you need to cut out of your schedule to make that possible? What sacrifices do you need to take?”

I think I have to pause for a while and reflect on this…
Think…reflect…ponder…
