Follow the rules

We are governed by rules, laws, norms, etc.  Rules were set to put things in order.  Traffic rules.  Dress codes.  Ten commandments.  Constitution.  Sometimes I wonder if there is a world with no rules, where you are free to do the things you like.  I just realized that rules were designed by God.  Even before in the time of Adam, God set a rule – “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil for when you eat of it you will surely die.” (Genesis 2:16-17)  At times, some of the rules do not make sense and are difficult to follow.  But in one way or another, the rule-maker has a good intention on creating a particular rule.  This is the same with God.  He doesn’t only have a good intention but it is for the best, for He is a sovereign God.  “If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.”  “The greatest in the kingdom is the servant of all.”  These principles just show that God’s thoughts are higher than ours.  1 John 5:3 says, “This is love for God: to obey his commands.  And his commands are not burdensome.”  I should obey God’s commands not because I have to or out of fear but because I love Him.  This verse makes sense to me these days…
